Reverend Reinaldo M Cardoso - West Warwick, RI

(05/13/14) Reverend Reinaldo M. Cardoso, 78, Pastor Emeritus of St. Anthony Church in West Warwick, died on Monday, May 12, 2014. Born in Faial da Terra, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Francisco F. and Irene (de Medeiros) Cardoso, he attended public schools in Sao Miguel. In preparation for the priesthood, he studied at the Seminary of Angra, Azores, and was ordained a priest on June 5, 1960 at the Cathedral of Angra by Bishop Alonso de Carvalho. In preparation for his mission work in East Timor, Father Cardoso studied in Lisbon during the summer of 1960, and then became the director of St. Joseph Campus and Secretary and Chancellor of the Diocese of Dili. From 1963 to 1964, he taught at that diocese s seminary and at the Teachers College. Father later served as assistant director of the Missions of the District of Bobanaro and assistant pastor and pastor of the Missions of the District of Suai (1965-1973). He worked passionately toward the liberation of the people of East Timor, which became a reality on May 20, 2002. In November 1973, Father Cardoso came to the United States and became assistant pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Providence and part-time chaplain at Rhode Island Hospital. He also attended Rhode Island College to receive a Master s Degree in Education. Father Cardoso was incardinated into the Diocese of Providence in 1983, and was appointed pastor of St. Anthony Church in West Warwick in October 1986 and served there until July 2004, when due to illness, he went on a medical leave. Consequently he moved to the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Pawtucket and in March 2006, he retired as Pastor, but continued to offer Mass periodically for the Portuguese members of Sacred Heart Church in Pawtucket. In recent years, he had lived at St. Antoine Residence, Woonsocket. Fr. Cardoso is survived by brothers Albert & wife Silvana, Jose & wife Eva, Manuel & wife Lena, sister-in-law Adriana Cardoso and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ramiro and Marildo Cardoso. The solemn transferal of his body will be celebrated on Thursday at 4:00 pm in St. Anthony Church, West Warwick followed by calling hours until 8:00 pm. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of his soul on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, West Warwick. (05/13/14) Dennis M. Heroux, 62, of Longfellow Drive, Coventry, RI, passed away at home on Monday, May 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Providence, RI, he was the beloved husband of Lauren R. (McKeen). They were married for forty-two years. He was the son of the late Donat and Mabel (Theroux) Heroux. He was a facility supervisor for twenty-one years at G-Tech of Coventry, RI leaving due to illness. He also previously worked for Engineered Yarns for fourteen years. He belonged to Club Frontenac of West Warwick, RI. Besides his wife he is the loving father of four daughters; Kerri L. Hayes, Jodi L. Nardolillo, Sandi L. Pichette and Staci L. Heroux, a son-in-law; Anthony L. Nardolillo, III, two brothers; Darrald F. Heroux and his wife Claire and Dean D. Heroux, fourteen grandchildren; Gianna, Trevor, Gavin, Dylan, Zachary, Anthony, Olivia, Kyle, Tyler, Alyssa, Megan, Devin, Ryan and John, two great granddaughters; Aubrey and Aria and several nieces and nephews. Dennis also leaves his loving in-laws. (05/13/14) Daley, Sister Mary Karen, 69, formerly Sister Mary John Leone, a Sister of Mercy and a retired health care worker passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, while hospitalized in Providence. Born Karen Elizabeth Daley, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Leone (Cyr) Daley. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late George and Agnes Gregory of Fall River, MA. Sister Karen graduated from Mount St Mary Academy in 1962 and entered the Sisters of Mercy community in September of that same year. She professed her perpetual vows on July 18, 1970. Sister earned a BA from Salve Regina University in Newport in 1972. She then earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Rhode Island Junior College (now CCRI) in 1976. Sister Karen began her education ministry teaching the third grade at St John Baptist School in New Bedford, MA. She continued at St. Matthew School in Cranston and later taught at Our Lady of Victories School in Woonsocket. Moving into the health care field she studied nursing and subsequently worked at Mount St Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, Fatima Hospital in North Providence, L&M Nursing Services in Pawtucket, the Scandinavian Home in Cranston, and High Point in North Kingston. Sister Karen’s journey also led her to being a counselor at Talbot House in Providence, and Senior House Manager and Education Coordinator at Eastman House in Cranston. Active in recovery and retreat work, she led workshops for numerous groups along the east coast. Over the last few years, Sister worked both at the Family Outreach Center as a receptionist and at St Francis Chapel at the hospitality desk. She also was a team member for the pastoral care team of the Sisters of Mercy. Through her various ministries, Karen was known for her good humor and for her clear commitment to help those whose paths she crossed. In addition to her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy, she leaves her step-brother, George Gregory of South Carolina, nieces, and a nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Mount St. Rita Chapel, 15 Sumner Brown Rd., Cumberland. (05/13/14) North Providence – Ernest F. Coit, Jr., 76, of North Providence went to be with his mother in heaven on May 11, 2014. He peacefully passed surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Lenore K. (Goldstein) Coit for 28 years. Born in Providence and raised in West Warwick, he was the son of the late Jeannette (Catalano) Coit and the late Ernest F. Coit. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ernest F. Coit III of Pawtucket and Scott W. Coit, Sr. of Lincoln; one brother, George Coit and his wife Pat of Texas; one sister, Linda Forcelli and her husband, Tony of North Kingstown; and his best friend of 64 years, Robert Bates; his stepchildren, Howard Fain (wife Margaret), Marc Fain (wife Tamara), Terri Ciolfi (husband Larry), and Jerry Fain (wife Lisa). Ernie had thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was an insurance agent for 47 years, operating his own agency with Nationwide Insurance in Pawtucket for over 42 years. He earned numerous awards, including the National Quality, Multi-line Sales and Sales Achievement Awards from the National Association of Life Underwriters for service to his policyholders. Five years in a row he was in the top 3 for life policy sales (out of 4600 agents). He graduated from John F. Deering (West Warwick) High School. He was a neighborhood commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a baseball coach for the Town of Lincoln. He was chairman of his 50th high school class reunion and was the president of Partners Without Partners for 2 years where he met his sweet lady, Lenore. Ernie was an avid Red Sox fan and was a follower of Providence College Men’s Basketball. He and Lenore traveled to games with the team all over the country including Hawaii and Paris, France. Ernie loved travel and fine dining. He wintered in Florida. He enjoyed time with his family at their summer home on Wakefield Pond. As an avid fresh water bass fisherman, he fished many times in the Florida Everglades and was recognized in Bass Masters Magazine for landing a 10 lb. 11 oz. fresh water bass. His Prayer Service will be celebrated FRIDAY, MAY 16 at 11 A.M. at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston. Beaupre. Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Kennedy and Elizabeth Catherine Kennedy Connors. She was the sister to the late John Edward Kennedy and Richard Robert Kennedy. She lived at her daughter Marcia Hoffman\'s home for twelve years, where she was adored and lovingly cared for by her and by her son-in-law Frank Hoffman. She is survived by her three daughters; Patricia A. Loring and her husband Robert of Warwick, RI, Marcia M. Hoffman and her husband Frank of Warwick, RI and Joan F. Tallman and her husband William of Narragansett, RI. She was the mother of the late Eugene D. Beaupre. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. (05/14/14) CLARK, Curtis S., 77, of Blackrock Road, Coventry, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Emond) Clark, they had been married for 47 years. Born in New Britain, CT, a son of the late Stewart and Helen (Anderson) Clark. He resided in Coventry for the past 47 years. Mr. Clark was a technician with Verizon for 24 years before retiring in 1997. He served in the United States Army. Besides his wife he leaves his children, Douglas M. Clark and his wife Erin of Johnston, Tracy A. Jackson and her husband Lee of Clinton, CT and Jason C. Clark and his wife Michelle of Wylie, TX; a sister, Beverly Grenier of Coventry and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Donald Clark. Caring uncle of Andrew J. Sherillo. John Paul was a Claims Adjuster for Amica Insurance for 6 1/2 years until his retirement due to illness. He was a graduate of Seekonk High School, class of 1991, where he served as a Drum Major from 1990-91. He received his Associate Degree in Business/Law Enforcement from CCRI in 1994 and his Bachelor Degree of Justice with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Rhode Island College in 1997. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 1 in Seekonk at which he served as Assistant Scout Master for 14 years. John Paul always felt a need to help the less fortunate and homeless. (05/15/14) Elsie I. (Beech) Cardin, 86, of Warwick passed away on April 27, 2014 at Westview Health Care. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Cardin to whom she was married for 58 years. Born in Attleboro, MA, Elsie was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Midgely) Beech. She was the beloved mother of Marcia L. Clifford of Coventry, Richard D. Cardin and his wife Pamela of Davenport, FL and Joseph C. Cardin and his wife Janet of Lincoln. Elsie is also survived by her six grandchildren, as well as five great-grandchildren. Elsie devoted her life to the service of others and spent decades as a Registered Nurse with the Pawtuxet Valley Visiting Nurse Association and Eleanor Slater Hospital, after graduating from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing. She stayed active during retirement, frequently traveling with her husband and attending musical theatre productions at venues along the East Coast. Elsie was an avid reader, and she enjoyed shopping, the Red Sox, and playing mahjong with her closest friends. She also took great joy in caring for many cats throughout her life. Her family members are invited to a committal service on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter and may gather at the administration building of the cemetery at 10:45 am. Leo was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the proprietor of Dottie’s Caterers, Pawtucket, RI for fifty years until retiring in 1995. Herby was born in Pawtucket on March 11, 1918 to the late Herbert and Mary Evelyn (Martin) Entwistle. He served as an MP in the U.S. Army during World War II completing tours in North Africa and Italy. Upon returning from the War, he married the love of his life, Doris (Crooks) on September 22, 1945. Herby worked as a Master Plumber throughout Rhode Island for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Golden Circle at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket and the Rhode Island Strummers Ukulele Band. Up until his last day, Herby enjoyed a variety of hobbies including the daily ProJo crossword puzzle, listening to music, singing, playing the harmonica and ukulele, traveling, telling stories about his life experiences (especially about the Great Depression and World War II), daily journaling, and reading. Earlier in his life, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed world-wide travel. But nothing was more important than his family. Besides his wife of 68+ years, he leaves his daughter, Joan Pinto and her husband, Joe; his two granddaughters, Joyce Burlingame and her husband, Tom, and Jill Gould and her husband, LPD Captain Philip Gould; his great grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Burlingame, and Aidan and Reagan Gould, all of Lincoln. He also leaves his sisters, Alice Quinn of Lincoln and Eleanor Williams Schofield of Cumberland as well as many nieces and one nephew. He is predeceased by his son, Richard Entwistle and his brother, John Edward Entwistle. Funeral Services will be celebrated MONDAY, MAY 19 at 10 A.M. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. (05/17/14) Michael David Horan, 54, of East Greenwich, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Trinity Health and Rehabilitation of Woonsocket. He was born in Providence, a son of Dorothy Ann (Lynch) Horan of Warwick and the late Charles Francis Horan. Mr. Horan was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital Providence until illness forced his retirement. Michael was a veteran of the US Army serving as a Staff Sergeant in Desert Storm. He was a graduate of Toll Gate High School, he has lived in Warwick most of his life. Besides his mother he is survived by 2 sons Michael D. Horan Jr. of New Jersey, Andrew R. Horan of New Jersey, a daughter Sheryl Lynn Horan of Florida, 2 brothers William A. Horan and Charles F. Horan, both of Warwick, and 2 sisters Marycatherine Mamary of Hingham, MA, Kimberly Ann Hallquist of Andover, NH. His funeral will be held Monday May 19, 2014 at 7:30am from the URQUHART – MURPHY Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Catherine of Siena Church 3250 Post Road Warwick, burial with Military Honors will follow in the R.I. (05/17/14) Jeanne R. (Bedard) Garant, 71, of Fall River, formerly of Cornhill Rd., Somerset, died Friday, May 16, 2014. A member of the BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1960, she was employed by St. Anne’s Hospital for many years. She was active in the Somerset Schools PTO, was a Somerset Girls Softball League Coach and enjoyed bowling and crossword puzzles. She leaves her former husband Richard P. Garant of West Wareham; three daughters, Holly J. Garant of Fall River and Michelle L. Garant Wilson and her husband Daniel and Tracy A. Priestner and her husband Paul, all of Westport; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Christopher Wilson and Cabot and Alden Priestner; brothers, Paul Bedard of Westport, Russell Bedard of Wareham and Vincent Bedard of California and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Roger and C. Louise (Rochon) Bedard and the sister of the late André Bedard. Following cremation, her funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. John of God Church, Somerset. Burial, North Burial Ground, Fall River. Visitation at the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So.
