(08/06/12) Cumberland – Robert J. Canavan, 80, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Trinity Health Center, Woonsocket surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Sarah E. “Sally” (Anter) Canavan. Mr. and Mrs. Canavan were married for 54 years.
Born in Lincoln, a son of the late Joseph and Edith (Matley) Canavan, he had lived in Cumberland for the past 50 years.
Mr. Canavan was an electrical designer for Metcalf & Eddy Engineers of Boston and Wakefield, MA for 40 years before retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Christ Church, Lincoln. He was a Korean War Army veteran.
Besides his wife, he leaves his loving children, Joseph Canavan and his wife, Linda, Michael Canavan and his wife, Rachel, The Rev. Mary Canavan, Robert Canavan II and his wife, Susan and John Canavan and his wife, Nancy; one sister, Winifred Butler of Lincoln; and eleven grandchildren.

Margaret L. (Schoenrock) Pease, 70, of Woodville Rd. in Woodville, RI, passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Thursday July 26th after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Edward Pease.
Born in Newport, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Littlefield) Schoenrock, Mrs. Pease has been a resident of South County since 1960 and moving to Richmond permanently in 1979. Along with her husband, Edward and Margaret owned and operated Narragansett Reproductions. An antique car enthusiast, Margaret was a member of the Board of Directors for 20 years of the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club with which she was a member for over 50 years. She was also fond of gardening, especially growing flowers.

She was the wife of the late Edward J. Mimnaugh. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John A. Stimpson, Sr. and the late Dolores H. (Meanerhon) Stimpson.
Gail enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Meghan K. Mimnaugh of Cranston; a son, Edward J. Mimnaugh, Jr. of Cranston; two sisters, Jean Howell of East Greenwich and Lori Gallagher of Warwick and two brothers, Edward H. Stimpson of Smithfield and Paul M. Stimpson of Cranston. She was the sister of the late John A. Stimpson, Jr., James J. Stimpson and Robert E. Stimpson.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late George H. Hands, II and Eunice (Mathewson) Hands, he resided in Pawtucket and Central Falls most of his life. George was a machinist and had been employed by Carol Cable, Jet Spray and Stanley Bostitch. He was a member of the Darlington Congregational Church and a graduate of the Community Kitchen Cooking Program associated with Johnson & Wales University. George was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed fishing. When his sons were young, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Pawtucket, Central Falls and Oakland Beach. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Douglas, Earl and Joseph; two brothers, Donald Hands in Maine and Michael Hands of Scituate; two sisters, Gloria Dumont of Central Falls and Isabelle Palin in Maine and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. (08/07/12) Richard “Dick” Roderick, age 84 of Fall River passed away August 6, 2012 after a long-term illness. He was husband of Christine (Cabral) Roderick for 59 years and son of the late Manuel and Julia (Ryan) Roderick; father of Nancy Mercer (husband Jay), Gail Borden (husband Michael) both of Fall River and Richard Roderick (wife Melissa) of Pawtucket; brother of Claire Smith Reilly of FL and the late Theresa Shaw; grandfather of 5and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Dick was the founder and proprietor of Roderick Plumbing, established in 1954. He served as an Airport Commissioner in the Mitchell Administration, received the Marian Medal in 1999 and was a Eucharistic minister and a parishioner of Holy Name Church. Richard was a WWII USN veteran. He was a member of the Quequechan Club and a captain for 1 year of the Roderick’s Bowling team. He also was a member of the Serra Club and the Century Club at Bishop Connelly High School. He coached Fall River Youth Hockey and was chairman of many committees at St. Michael Church.

(08/08/12) O’Connell, George G., 80, passed away at Kent Hospital on Wednesday, August 08, 2012. He was the devoted husband to Jean (Anderson) O’Connell. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this September.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Jean Pugliese, Rita Calabrese, Patricia Mandile, George O’Connell, Mary Ellen Leonhardt, Margaret Conklin and Christine Perenti and sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four brothers: Joseph, Charles, Raymond and Thomas O’Connell. He was the father of the late John P. O\'Connell.
Mr. O’Connell was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was employed with Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer for 25 years and was a member of the East Greenwich Art Club.

(08/08/12) Richard G. Robinson, 72, of Victory Highway, Coventry, RI, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Phillip Hulitar Home and Hospice Care of RI, in Providence RI.
He was married for fifty two years to Nancy J. (Duxbury) Robinson. He was born in Lynn, MA to the late Arnold S. and Doris M. (O\\\'Malley) Robinson.
In 1966 he entered into the elevator industry and worked for Otis, Payne, and Atlantic Elevator South for a total of 42 years of service. He belonged to the Local 39 IUEC and was a business agent for three years in the early eighties. He was a naval veteran during the Cuban Crisis in the submarine service and participated in the Russian Blockade. He completed six years service from 1958-1964.
Besides his wife he leaves four children; Scott R. Robinson, Sheryl J. Tennent, Jodi L. McCulley, and Jon R. Robinson, eight grandchildren; Nicolle Gravier, Justin Robinson, Madison, Sienna, Logan and Declan McCulley and Sean R. and Riley M. Tennent, two great grandchildren; Brenia and Olivia Gravier and one sister; Beverly A. Robinson. He was predeceased by a brother; Arnold W. Robinson.
Military Honors will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 4:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI followed by visiting hours from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Lorraine was employed at Texas Instruments for over 30 years until retiring as a supervisor. She was most recently employed in the Bingo Hall at Foxwoods for several years, retiring to help take care of her grandchildren. Born in Providence, RI he was married for forty-seven years to Diane M. (Bent) Markowski and was the son of the late Francis V. and Sarah (Aldrich) Markowski, Sr.
Frank was a US Army National Guard from 1960 to 1993 and was a machinist for 14 years at General Dynamics in Groton, CT prior to retiring in 1996. He also worked for Browne and Sharpe in North Kingstown, RI for 19 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Donna Morton, Lisa Vanasse, and Tina Markowski, three grandchildren; Andrew Morton, and Adam and Allison Vanasse, and a sister; Dorothy Miele.

Edward Hill, Sr. FRFD, Ret. - Fall River, MA
(08/12/12) Longtime Fall River resident and Westport native Edward Hill, Sr., 83, who was living at Catholic Memorial Home while dealing with his dementia and related health issues, passed away on August 11, 2012.
Son of the late James and Louise (Guild) Hill and stepson of Elizabeth (Guild) Hill, he was the brother of Joan Andrade, Carol Crepeau, Robert Hill and the late James H. Hill, James E. Hill and Charlotte LeBlanc. He leaves his son Edward Hill, Jr. and his wife Jeanne (Plourde) Hill, grandchildren, Shelley Hill, Kaitlyn Hill, Laura Pelton, Christopher Pelton, Diane Pelton and Michelle Pelton and great-grandchildren Cody Ferreira, Tyler Hill and Morgan Faith Hill.
Formerly married to the late Maureen (Coppinger) Hill Crocker, he also leaves his son’s mother-in-law Terry Plourde, aunt Dorothy Hill, former daughter-in-law Michelle Doherty-Hill and many nieces and nephews.
He left Westport High School to support the Charves Farm that was short on workers during WW II. Enlisting in the US Navy at the start of the Korean War he served on the USS English. After four years, he was discharged with honor at the rank of Petty Officer III. Residing in Fall River after his military commitment, he worked at the Coca Cola plant and Firestone Rubber Co. By the late 1950’s he was accepted into the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship program while working at Hughes Sheet Metal Shop. During this period he volunteered on every political campaign (City Council, Governor’s Council, Mayor) for the late Nicholas W. Mitchell.
After passing the Mass. firefighter’s civil service exam he was appointed to the Fall River Fire Department in 1964. Assigned to the Globe and later the Flint station, he retired after 28 years with the department.
In 2002 the Westport Community School System presented him with an honorary diploma for his public service. Recently he donated his uniforms and related artifacts to the newly formed Fall River Fire Department Museum.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home.

Mr. Carvalho was a graduate of Lockwood High School and the owner of Oak Arts Jewelry until his retirement. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was the loving husband of Claudette L. (Veilleux) Hutchins. They had been married for 53 years. Born in Coventry, a son of the late Vernon and Emma (Anderson) Hutchins. He resided in Coventry before moving to Sebring, Florida in 1994.
Mr. Hutchins was a heavy equipment mechanic for 50 years before retiring in 1994. He was a Korean War Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, enjoyed family, friends and gardening.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Cheryl A. Heroux and her husband Albert, WWFD (Ret.) of West Warwick; two sons, Raymond L. Hutchins and his wife Donna of West Greenwich and Wayne A. (08/13/12) LYONS, Germaine (Turgeon), 88, of Audrey Court, Coventry, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at Kent Regency.
She was the wife of the late William F. Lyons, Jr. Born in West Warwick, a daughter of the late Charles and Emilia (Roy) Turgeon. She was a resident of Coventry since 1954.
Mrs. Lyons was a lace weaver for 40 years before retiring. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and reading.
She is survived by a son, William F. Lyons, III and his wife Barbara of Warwick; a brother, Jean C. Turgeon of West Warwick; a sister, Florence Baribeault of Sommerville, SC; four grandchildren, Brent and Devon Lyons and Jeff and Kate Ryder and four great grandchildren, Nolan, Ruby, Charles and Georgia Lyons. She was the sister of the late Fernand Nadeau, Rose Andrea, Oscar and Gerald Turgeon.
Her funeral and interment at RI Veterans Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
