(02/03/13) Eleanor Mary (Gearing) Taylor, born June 18, 1929 in Worcester, MA to Minnie Anna Clay and Albert George Lord Gearing. The second oldest, Eleanor has an older sister Jean, younger sister Marie, and her baby brother, George. The family came to life in Providence when Eleanor was 4 years old. She is a graduate of Hope High School. When she was young, she volunteered and worked at Rhode Island Hospital and Providence Lying-In Hospital. She once dreamt of being a nurse. She later worked for two different jewelry companies where she was in charge of stringing pearls at the last one. From there she went to work for Amica Insurance doing clerical/keypunch work. She had to leave Amica once she got married. She met her husband, Paul Eugene Taylor, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Providence when he came to try a new church with her future brother-in-law, Herb Sumner, and they joined the youth fellowship group. After dating a few other girls, Paul finally asked Eleanor out on a date when she was 18 years old. Though everyone told Eleanor he was too old for her (he was six years her senior), they were together from that day on. Paul & Eleanor married on May 13, 1950 and remained married for 61 years, until his death in 2011. They had four children, Linda, Bob, Rick & Paula; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Eric, Jill & Ali; and one great –grandchild, Jaedyn. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For most of her marriage she was a stay-at-home mom and always there to support and encourage her children. She was their biggest cheerleader. She did work briefly at the A&P Bakery making cakes and for the Warwick School System in the Dietary Department. Eleanor was an excellent seamstress (which she inherited from her mother) and an outstanding baker. To this day, the neighborhood children talk about all the amazing kinds of squares and cookies Mrs. Taylor made when they were growing up. The Taylor house was a favorite stop for an afternoon snack. Eleanor lived a full life raising her family and supporting her husband in his endeavors. She will be missed by all. Funeral Services are private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The Patients Activity Fund of West View Health Care Center, 239 Legris Ave., West Warwick, RI 02893 would be appreciated.
