(10/07/14) Donald Ernest Watson, Sr., 80, of Warwick, owner of C. P. Watson Asphalt Paving and Plan Way Properties for over sixty years , died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the loving husband of the late Christina A. Ricci for forty-one years.
Born in Providence, the son of Howard J. and Sara (Kajean) Watson he was a hardworking, self-made business man and a dedicated father. He was an avid stock car enthusiast and a sponsor of many local racers. Donald loved a good cigar while operating his pay loader and spending time with friends. His trusting way in making an agreement made his handshake his word. He was affiliated with the Historical Construction Equipment Association, American Truck Historical Society, Little Rhody Chapter ATCA, Rhode Island Builders Association, Rhode Island Independent Contractors, Lifetime Member of the Rhode Island Troopers Association, and a friend of the Sisters of Mercy.
Mr. Watson leaves two sons, Howard J. Watson (Margaret) and Donald E. Watson Jr. and a daughter Agnes A. Shay. He also leaves a companion Brenda Landroche. He had five grandchildren: Robert D. Watson, Laura C. Watson, Virginia M. Fontana, Mary Rose Watson, and Edward Shay and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother-in-law of Etta Ricci and the brother of the late Howard J. Watson.
His funeral will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
