(07/23/14) Coventry- Wallace, Dorothy W. (Mackenzie), 95, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Riverview Healthcare in Coventry. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew Wallace for 54 years when he passed in 2000. She was the daughter of the late Donald and Laurabel (Dandeno) Mackenzie.
Dorothy was born in Providence in 1919 and resided there until her move to Cranston in 1951. She graduated from Cranston East High School in 1937 only to soon graduate from Katherine Gibbs School in 1938. She soon sought work at John F. Street Company, a cotton yarn broker from 1938-1945 and Knight & Gilbert Advertising Agency in Providence from 1945-1949. Dorothy established herself as a secretary for the Coventry School Department for 18 years.
She was a member and past officer of Ionia Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of Western Coventry PTA and past president of Summit Library Association. Dorothy was a devoted parishioner and member of Summit Baptist Church for 58 years; furthermore served in the choir, a deacon and Sunday school teacher and was treasurer for 18 years.
She is survived by two sons: Scott A. Wallace and his wife Lydia of West Greenwich and Kurt A. Wallace and his wife Diane of Coventry; a grandson Nathan C. Wallace; three step-grandchildren: Tom, Chris and Kelly Wood and five step great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Summit Baptist Church, 1176 Victory Hwy, Coventry, RI 02827 on Saturday, August 9 at 1 PM. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Summit Baptist Church. Burial will be private.
