(12/17/12) Earl L. Hodson, Sr., 87, of Tiogue Avenue, West Warwick, RI, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI. Born in Providence, RI, he was the husband of Harriet G. (Barnes) Hodson. They were married for sixty-six years. He was the son of the late Amos and Gladys (Spinks) Hodson.
Earl was a self employed carpenter for many years. He also worked for many years at Texaco on Allens Avenue. He was also a special officer with the Warwick Police Department. He also worked part time at Apex Department Store and as a Real Estate Broker. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of WWII serving aboard the U.S. Lowe D.E. 325. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and reading. Besides his wife he leaves a son; Earl L. Hodson, Jr. Ret. Warwick Police Department, a daughter; Cynthia E. Cottrill of Wilmington, NC, a sister; Pearl Martinez, six grandchildren; Robin Hopkins, Cyndi Faiola, Erin Ethier, James Murray, Nicholas Hodson and Samantha Hodson, nine great grandchildren; Philip, Joseph, Jacob, Jeff, Frankie, Riley, Hanna, Olivia and James and many nieces and nephews that he cared for very much. He was predeceased by a daughter; Lynn M. Either.
His service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 9:45 am from the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI with a memorial service at 11:00 am in the First Congregational Church, 715 Oakland Beach Avenue, Warwick, RI. Burial with US Military Honors will be held in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Calling hours with a Masonic Service are Wednesday, December 19th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
