(11/03/12) Cumberland – Dorothy (Klowan) “Dot” Cook passed away after enjoying 93 years with us. She was the wife of the late Howard W. Cook. She was born in Cumberland. She leaves behind her two sons, Howard K. Cook, Jr. and his wife, Maryann of Marco Island, Florida and John K. Cook and his wife, Monica of East Greenwich. In addition, she leaves behind her four grandchildren, Patricia Bruno of Westboro, MA, Stephen Cook, M.D. of Pittsburgh, PA, Jonathan Cook of Celebration, FL and Shelby Kornbluth of Foxboro, MA. She had eight great grandchildren: twins, Sofia and Olivia Bruno and Joshua Beaulieu, Leo Cook, Maxwell and Hailey Kornbluth, and Juliette and Jacqueline Cook. Dot was preceded in death by her six siblings: brothers, John, Russell and Alexander Klowan and sisters, Mary Orna, Thelma Leprey and Hannah Klowan. Dot’s life was devoted to her family and their accomplishments. That began with her twin boys, and as time passed, that focus changed to her grandchildren. In later years, she enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren. Dot was an avid gardener who loved planting and taking care of her gardens. She was also an expert in recognizing various birds in and around her home. She devoted much of her time to feeding the birds and reading about them. For over 30 years, Dot was a carrier for the Providence Evening Bulletin followed by the Woonsocket Call and the Pawtucket Times, which she delivered to the local residents in the Diamond Hill area of Cumberland. She was always accompanied by her loving sister, the late Hannah Klowan. Relatives and friends may call at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2012 at 9:30 – 10:30 A.M., followed by a Requiem Eucharist at 11 A.M. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Dot will be buried in Diamond Hill Cemetery, where she will rest with her husband of 65 years, Howard, who passed away 4 years earlier. From this site, she will be able to overlook her family’s farm and the home she lived in for most of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Dot’s memory be made to the Youth Committee Oil Project, Suite 2, 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI 02864, which provides fuel assistance to senior citizens in Cumberland to help those seniors in need of fuel and food assistance.
