(09/21/15) Lincoln – Louis B. Gingras of Lincoln died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He enjoyed a long life of 93 years. The last of nine siblings, he was born in Pawtucket on January 12, 1922, a son of the late Fred and Lena (Baron) Gingras. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Edna (Proulx) Gingras; his four loving children, Dyan Rook and her husband Richard of Wrentham, MA; Theresa Wingrove and her husband, Douglas of Westwood, MA; Richard Gingras and his wife Mitzi Trumbo of Los Altos, CA and Peter Gingras and his wife, Tel of Lincoln; his six beloved grandchildren, Caitlin Rook Black, Michael and Noah Gingras, Emily Wingrove, Molly Gingras and Samantha Campbell; and two beloved great grandchildren. He was the proud uncle of many lovely nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gabrielle Gingras, Dorothy Vaillancourt, Paul Gingras, Raymond Gingras, Leo Gingras, Conrad Gingras, Noella Gingras and Claire Beland.
Before enlisting in the U.S. Navy to serve his country in World War II, he took classes at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. He served in the Pacific Tehater as a Machinist’s Mate on the USS Briareus until the end of the war. After he was discharged from the Navy, he worked at New England Machine & Electric Company, where he met his wife, Edna. He was also a longtime employee of the Providence Journal Newspaper and later the Providence Gravure Company, where he was responsible for keeping the presses running.
He was an active member of St. Ambrose Church in Albion, RI and earlier with the CYO at St. James Church in Manville, RI.
He enjoyed encouraging his grandchildren in their schooling and many activities. In his early years, he played fast-pitch softball and very much enjoyed rooting for his local teams. Upon moving from Pawtucket, he designed and helped build his own home on Sayles Hill Road and enjoyed many years on the property, formerly the Italian Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid reader. He loved gardening and supplying food pantries with his excess produce.
His Funeral Mass, with military honors, will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in St. Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion. His burial will be private. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.
