(07/21/15) Murphy, Sister Mary Brian, 90, a Sister of Mercy, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Holt) Murphy, and sister of the late Francis Murphy. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1944 and professed final vows on August 16, 1950. Having received a Bachelor’s Degree from Catholic Teachers College, Sister began her teaching ministry in New Bedford at St. Mary School. She taught mainly in Fall River and New Bedford parish schools as well as at St. Vincent Home.
More recently, Sister resided at Franklin Court Assisted Living in Bristol and at Mount St. Rita Health Centre where she was lovingly cared for and enjoyed visits from community members who knew they could rely on her for her prayerful support.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mount St. Rita Health Centre Chapel, Cumberland. Visitation will be from 9:15 to 10:50 am with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:20 am at Mt. St. Rita’s. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
