(07/08/15) John W. Figuerado, 88, of Shady Valley Road, Coventry, RI, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI. Born in Central Falls, RI, he was the husband of Irene F. (Laliberte) Figuerado. They were married for sixty-seven years. He was the son of the late John J. and Alice (Swider) Figuerado.
John was the owner of Central Ice Cream from 1948 to 1965, the owner of Arctic Cleaners and Laundromat from 1965 to 1972 and the owner of J.W.F. Realty (R.I. Real Estate Broker). He worked at the Port Authority at Quonset Point from 1973 to 1979 as a facility foreman and was the West Warwick Building Inspector from 1979 until retiring in 1990.
He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and N.E. Institute. He was the President of The Dry Cleaning Association, the President of the West Warwick Lions Club, President of the Knights of Columbus Club, President of the Blessing Credit Union, a member of the West Warwick Elks Club, R.I. Refrigeration, the AM-Vets Post #2, the Zoning Board and the AARP. He was also a past member of the American Legion and the West Warwick Scholarship Fund. He also sat on the Small Business Association Advisory Committee and was a former Kent County sheriff.
Besides his wife he is survived by four children; Doris J. Wescott and her husband Donald, Lawrence J. Figuerado and his companion Donna, John W. Figuerado and his fiancee Janet and Paul N. Figuerado and his wife Melissa and four grandchildren; Julia, Dean, Alicia and Patrick.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9:00 am in the St. John & Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry, RI. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
