(06/11/15) Cumberland – Barbara Lee (Tingley) Varner, 92, of Cumberland died Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Steere House, Providence. She was the beloved wife of almost 60 years to the late Fred. H. Varner.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Albert D. and Harriet V. (Lee) Tingley, she had lived in Cumberland for over 60 years. She was a graduate of Pawtucket High School, Class of 1940, and attended Elmira College in New York.
Barbara was a classical music lover, a huge Boston Red Sox fan, an environmental activist, and an animal lover. Her other hobbies included politics and history.
She was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Lonsdale, the Blackstone Valley Historical Society, Save the Bay, and the Environmental Council of Rhode Island.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Lee Anne Varner of Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, June 15 at 11 A.M. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket.
