James A Williamson, Jr. - West Warwick, RI

(03/21/15) West Warwick - James A. Williamson, Jr., 54, of Wakefield Street, died unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon at Kent Hospital, Warwick after a three-year illness. He was the beloved husband of Maribeth (Quinn) Williamson, with whom he celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on September 21, 2014, and the loving father of Abigail Quinn Williamson and Samuel James Williamson. Born in Westerly, he was the son of Marjorie L. (Kite) and James A. Williamson, Sr. of West Warwick and the brother of Timothy A. Williamson (Maryanne) and Kristine D. Williamson (Kirk). Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law Martha D. Quinn, sister-in-law Jennifer L. Blansfield (Chris) and brothers-in-law Cameron P. Quinn, Jr. (Deb) and Mark E. Quinn. He also leaves many nieces and nephews who adored him. Jim was the son-in-law of the late Cameron P. \"Ronnie\" Quinn and brother-in-law of the late Jane M. Quinn. Jim was a member of the West Warwick High School Class of 1978. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island he worked for the RIDOT for 14 years before purchasing a family business – West Warwick Country Club. At the time of his death he was Assistant to the Superintendent of West Warwick Public Schools, Karen A. Tarasevich. Always active in the community, Jim was current Chairman of the West Warwick Planning Board and a former Chairman of the West Warwick School Committee. Until his death Jim served as Treasurer of the West Warwick Basketball League, West Warwick Cal Ripken League and West Warwick Babe Ruth League. He was a long time member of the West Warwick Wizards Athletic Awards Association. A terrific athlete himself his true passion was coaching and mentoring kids. Some of his proudest moments came as he was guiding Abby’s and Sam’s teams to numerous championships. In recent years Abby joined him on the coaching sidelines and together they continued that championship tradition. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 23 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 48 Highland Street, West Warwick. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory to any of the youth organizations he was involved in would be appreciated. Remembrance may be shared online at carpenterjenks.com.
