(09/23/12) APOSTOLOU, IRENE (Sarmousakis) wife of Nicholas for 64 years left us peacefully at age 87 Saturday September 22, 2012. She was born in Lynn, MA a daughter of the late James and Christine Sarmousakis.
She was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. Her retiring from teaching in the East Greenwich School System, allowed her to get more involved in Church Stewardship. She sang in the choir for over 25 years. A member Philoptochos Society, she served a term as President and also assisted in many church functions. She was awarded the Annunciation Laity Award and the Ministry Award from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston.
Besides her husband she is survived by two children; Cassandra Archer and husband Everett of Houston, Texas and James Apostolou and his wife Jean of Warwick; two grandchildren; Nicholas and Christopher Apostolou; one niece, one nephew and several godchildren. She was the sister of the late Anne Prialaga and Paul Sarmousakis.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving and professional staff at Greenwich Farms of Warwick , and the wonderful staff from Beacon Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
