(03/09/15) Manville – Leo O. Laferriere, 82, of Old River Road, died Saturday, March 7, at home. Born in Manville, a son of the late Lionel and Mirza (Beaudoin) Laferriere, he had been a lifelong resident of the village.
Mr. Laferriere worked as a machinist in the Aerospace Engineering Division of Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1991.
A Korean War veteran, he had served in the 5th Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert Laferriere of West Virginia, and David Laferriere of Connecticut; six sisters, Claire Laprade of Manville, Pauline Filion of Manville, Simone Lefrancois of Blackstone, Ma, Lucille Marcotte of North Smithfield, Lorraine Babbit of Manville, and Denise Hogue of North Smithfield; two brothers, John Laferriere of Manville, and Raoul “Ralph” Laferriere of Manville; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John Laferriere, and the brother of the late Rita Simonini.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. in St. James Church, 33 Division Street, Manville. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
