(03/01/15) Robert M. “Bob” Austin, age 59, of West Greenwich died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Coventry Center Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation of Coventry, RI. Mr. Austin was born March 21, 1955 in Warwick, RI. He was the son of the late Wilbur and Muriel (Briggs) Austin. He was the husband of Mary Lynn (Knapp) of West Greenwich, RI.
He was employed by Kent County Water Authority for 39 years as Systems Chief. He will be remembered by being a playful grandfather with his grandsons; quick witted sense of humor and always ready and willing to help others. He was looked at as a hero and mentor to his wife and daughter and is going to be void in their lives that will be hard to fill.
Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by a daughter: Rachel L. Webb and wife Jennifer Webb of Cranston, RI; two grandsons: Hunter and Gage Sieger; siblings: Wayne Austin of Alabama, Maureen Austin of West Warwick, Cathy Matteson of West Warwick, Mike Austin of Coventry and David Austin and wife Tracy Austin of Coventry; many nieces, nephews and his best friends: Mike, Tim, Rocky and Allen. He is predeceased by three siblings: Sandra Stephens, Randy Austin and William “Billy” Austin.
The funeral will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Saturday, March 7 at 3 PM. Calling hours will be from 1-3 PM prior to the service.
