(01/07/15) North Kingstown- Spicer, John W. Jr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. He was the husband of Marjorie E. (Fitzgerald) Spicer of North Kingstown for 72 wonderful years. Born in Norwich, CT, he was the son of the late John W. and Florence E. (Bradford) Spicer Jr.
Mr. Spicer was a World War II Navy veteran, serving for three years as a navigator and airplane mechanic. He was Past Master and an over 50 year member of the former Washington Lodge No. 5 now affiliated with Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 4 F & A. M. and a member of the Rhode Island Shriners. He was Grand Organist for the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island. He loved music, had his own plane and pilots license and owned B & M Mowers for 30 years post retirement.
He was an unbelievable husband, father and grandfather. His family has many great memories and stories that will be told generations to come as his legacy carries on.
Besides his wife Marjorie, he is survived by five children: Marjorie E. (husband Raymond) Regnaiere of North Kingstown, John W. (wife Beverly L.) Spicer III of Exeter, Bradford D. (wife Debbie J.) Spicer of East Greenwich, Susan E. (husband Charlie E.) Ellis III of East Greenwich and Cheryl L. (husband Scott F.) Bergemann of Chepachet. He had fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six siblings: Elizabeth, Dorothy, Beatrice, Helen, Marie and Bradford.
Funeral from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick at 8:15 AM on Saturday followed by burial with military honors at RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. His funeral service will be Friday, January 9 at 7 PM. Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM prior to the service, with a Masonic service at 6:30 PM.
