Walter A Bielan - Pawtucket, RI

(12/26/14) Pawtucket – Walter A. Bielan, 89, passed away Christmas morning, Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Lauretta T. (Levesque) Bielan for 62 years. Born in Brockton, he was a son of the late Antoni and Valerya (Blusys) Bielan. Walter was a United States Army veteran and Bronze Star Recipient of World War II, where he served with the 5th Army, 324th Infantry Regiment seeing action in both the Mediterranean and European Theaters earning four battlestars. He was a founding member and past-commander of VFW Post 3264, Mansfield. Walter was a longtime communicant of St. Cecilia Church, Pawtucket, and served as Cub Master for Pack 28 (St. Cecilia’s), during the 1960’s. He went on to become the District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts in Blackstone Valley, Narragansett Council, where he received the George Bucklin Award. Walter was a longtime camper at Sutton Falls Campground, Sutton, MA and he was also an avid salt water fisherman. Besides his beloved wife, he leaves three children, Cheryl A. Sirois and her husband, Kevin of Pawtucket, Steven G. Bielan and his wife, Laurianne of Teaticket, MA and David M. Bielan of Mansfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antoni F. and Alphonse E. Bielan. His funeral with Military Honors will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Mansfield.
