Norma "Toni" A (Cleri) Damian - --Elsewhere, RI

(09/08/14) DAMIAN, Norma A. “Toni” (Cleri), 87, a longtime West Warwick resident and the former office manager for the Diocese of Providence Community Affairs Vicariate, died peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio, with her family by her side. Norma was the widow of Walter T. Damian, who died in 1975. She was born Feb. 3, 1927 in Southbridge, Mass., the daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine (Feola) Cleri. She graduated from Mary E. Wells High School in 1943 and got married two years later. The couple moved to Rhode Island in the late 1940s. After her husband’s death, Norma worked for Johnson & Wales before joining the Community Affairs Vicariate in 1977. Upon retiring in 1992, she joined the AmeriCORPS Vista volunteer program, working with Habitat for Humanity in Providence. Later, she took a job at the West Warwick Public Library, where she worked until 2000. A lifelong artist who specialized in watercolors, Norma was a member of several art organizations and painting groups in Rhode Island. Her work was featured in group and one-woman shows. After moving to Milford, PA, in 2000, she joined Pike County Arts & Crafts, showing her work in that group’s annual exhibition and in a one-woman show in Milford in 2009. She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Damian-Borecky (George) of Milford; a son, Michael T. Damian (Lesley) of Columbus; a granddaughter, Beckie Damian of Columbus; a grandson, Matthew T. Damian (Diliana) of Columbus; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Leo. Other survivors include her sister, Olga Grenier of Southbridge, Mass.; and two brothers, Louis Cleri and Tony Cleri, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., along with many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at the chapel at the RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
