(08/06/14) Theodore R. Coburn, 74, of Hill Farm Road, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the husband of Lucy (Young) Coburn. Born in Warwick, the son of the late Theodore E. and Roberta H. (Bell) Coburn, he lived in Warwick before moving to Coventry in 1963. He was a 1958 graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Rhode Island Extension in Providence and drafting and design at the Rhode Island School of Design. An inventor and entrepreneur, he was the founder of Trea Inc., Warwick a company he owned and served as President until its sale to Toray Plastics of America in the 1980’s. Not truly being able to retire, he founded in the 1990‘s Trico Inc. of North Kingstown. For many years he was active with Coventry Pop Warner Football as a coach and as a past president of the league. “Coach Coburn” will best be remembered for his championship teams whose success spanned three decades from the 1960’s – the 1980’s. Ted truly enjoyed being outdoors. Whether it was playing golf at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, where he was a former member of the Board, gardening in his yard, traveling or simply being on “the field”, Ted loved being outdoors. His family remembers him as a very caring and generous man. He was funny and he loved to teach even though you didn’t know he was. “Grandpa” loved his pool parties and the Christmas family gathering. His family clearly understands it was his wish that this tradition continues. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Laurie Royal & her husband Tony of North Andover, MA, Theodore M. Coburn & his wife Kathy of Narragansett, Deborah Andrade & her husband Jeff of Cranston and Terence R. Coburn of San Diego, CA; one brother, Robert E. Coburn and his wife Carol of Shady Valley, TN; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was great grandfather of the late Even Tellier. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. A private inurnment will take place in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or to the Rhode Island SPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915. Condolences and remembrances may also be offered online at carpenterjenks.com.
