Gerard N Moreau - Coventry, RI

(08/06/14) Gerard N. Moreau, 87, formerly of Hill Street, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Irene A. (Laliberte) Moreau with whom he celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2013. Born in Lincoln, RI a son of the late Esdras and Oglore (Descoteaux) Moreau, he lived in West Warwick before moving to Coventry 38 years ago. He served during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tennessee. For 23 years he served in the Civil Service as a firefighter at Quonset Point NAS, Davisville, RI and South Weymouth, MA before retiring in 1979. For many years, before and after retiring from the Civil Service, he worked in the stockroom at the Sears Store in Warwick. A very devout Roman Catholic, he was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Church in West Warwick. He faithfully served his parish as a Eucharistic minister and as an active volunteer in many areas of the life of the parish. He often was seen serving in the soup kitchen and carrying the Our Lady of Fatima Statue throughout the homes of the parish’s congregation. While working at Sears, he often brought clothing and other baby items for donation in support of the ministry of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. At home, he devoted many hours to the care of his vegetable garden, the fruits of which he generously gave to family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Robert G. Moreau of Tamarac, FL; Laura Rose & her husband Frank of Coral Springs, FL; William E. Moreau of West Warwick and Anne M. Harrington & her husband Bret of Coventry; one brother: Charles Moreau of Cumberland; eight grandchildren: Nicole, Robert, Patrick & Ryan Moreau; Jillian & Frank Rose; Kayla & Lauren Harrington and his three great grandchildren: Lucien, Addison & Frank. He was predeceased by five siblings: Lucien Moreau, Dorothy Clavet, Roland Moreau, Andrew Moreau and Robert Moreau. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Church, Highland Street, West Warwick. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will be on Saturday in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Albion. Remembrances may be offered online at carpenterjenks.com.
