(07/26/14) CUMBERLAND – Maria F. (Afonso) Gemski, 60, of Silva Street, died Friday, July 25th at the Philip Hulitar In-Patient Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Gemski.
Born in Medeiros, Montalegre, Portgual, a daughter of Jose Afonso, and the late Luisa (Mota) Afonso, she had lived in Brazil, before settling in Central Falls and moving to Cumberland over twenty years ago.
Ms. Gemski was a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island, and worked as an X-Ray and MRI Technologist for Milford Regional Hospital and Landmark Medical Center, before retiring in February due to her illness. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
Besides her father, she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Gemski of Cumberland; her son, Christopher Gemski of Foxboro, Massachusetts; her brother, Jose “Zacha” Afonso of North Providence; and her nieces and nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 29, at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Saint Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
