A former parishioner at St. Michael\'s Church in South Providence, she later lived in Snug Harbor and Narragansett where she was a communicant at St. Francis Church in Wakefield, RI, and the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Narragansett, RI. Florence was a graduate of Classical High School (\'38) and RI College of Education (\'42) (now RIC). She worked as a social worker in RI before assisting returning WWII veterans as a Red Cross worker at Staten Island, NY. She married her late husband Ed in 1946 following his return from the war.
She supported Ocean Tides and the Christian Brothers in Narragansett and volunteered at South County Hospital for many years. She belonged to Pt. Judith County Club, Snug Harbor East Matunuck Civic Association and was a member of Veridames at Providence College, Catholic Daughters of America and was a former member of the South Kingstown Democratic Town Committee. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her husband Ed’s legal, political and judicial careers while at the same time providing a loving home for her family. She enjoyed many other activities with family and friends, especially attending Providence College basketball games, traveling with Ed after his retirement, staying with her daughters Maggie and Patricia and their families in Phoenix, playing cards, knitting, reading mysteries and doing puzzles.
In her later years, she looked forward to “Cousins’ Week” and spending time with her many grandchildren. She was blessed with good cheer and common sense and met the challenges and losses in life with grace and dignity. She was very grateful for all of her and Ed’s friends throughout Rhode Island. Florence was truly blessed with a good life and we will miss her very much.
