(04/30/14) Mary E. Novak, 81, of Mead Street, Coventry, RI, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014 at home. Born in Providence, RI, she was the wife of Cyril Novak. They were married for fifty-four years. She was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Collins) Bates.
Mary worked in the school lunch program for the Coventry School Department for many years. She also worked at Borrelli\'s Bakery for two years, the West Bay Voc-Tech lunch program and the West Warwick Credit Union.
Besides her husband, Mary is survived by a daughter; Patricia A. Finkes, a sister; Florence Bedard, two grandsons; John Lantagne and Philip McCafferty and seven great grandchildren; Stephen, Cassandra, Dylan and Samantha Lantagne and Trevon and Liam McCafferty. She was predeceased by three brothers; Fred Bates, Jim Bates and John Bates and four sisters; Christine Hamilton, Blanche McCarthy, Theresa Legault and Helen Rollins.
Mary\'s calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Her funeral and burial services will be private.
