(04/06/14) Grace L. (Barlow) Perkins, 91, of Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, passed away on Friday evening, April 4, 2014 at the Carriage House at the Elms. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Chester J. Perkins. She is survived by her four children, C. B. Perkins, husband of Terry, of Mystic, Kathy Ferguson, wife of John, of San Diego, CA, Beth Carlson, wife of Duane, of Seattle, WA and Karen Drakos, wife of Jim, of Greenwich, her grandchildren, Matt and Kerry Perkins, Matt Ferguson, Jennifer and Joel Taylor, Kier and Liz Huehnergarth, Erin Huehnergarth, Ryan McLaughlin, and Alex Drakos and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Grace was pre-deceased by her twin sister Esther Banville.
Mrs. Perkins was born in Mystic on January 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Grace L. (Finegan) Barlow. Grace was a lifelong equestrian who continued riding into her eighties. She was a member of various horse clubs, including the Cross State Trail Riders. Along with her husband, Grace was very active with the 4-H Club. She was a member of the “Ladies of the Cloth” sewing club with her dear friend Thelma Swody and was a lifelong active member of the Road Church in Stonington. Grace lived life to the fullest and never said “no” to an adventure.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the 1st Congregational Church, aka the “Road Church”, 903 Pequot Trail, Stonington. Funeral services are under the direction of Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
