(02/01/13) Helen V. (McDevitt) Greenup, 90, of Cranston, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Steere House, Providence. She was the wife of the late Herbert B. Greenup. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Daniel B. and Agnes (Brady) McDevitt, she was a resident of Cranston for over 50 years.
Mrs. Greenup was employed as a telephone operator for N.E. Telephone Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was a Communicant of St. Mark\'s Church, Cranston, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
She leaves her devoted children: David W. Greenup of Boston, MA, Joyce E. Boyd, Janice M. Leary and Carol A. Cullen, all of Cranston, her loving sister Mildred McKenna of Cranston, her cherished grandchildren, Karen Motta, Gregory Boyd, Daniel Cullen, Andrew Leary, Kristen Leary, and Matthew Cullen, and great-grandchildren, Kathryn Motta, Reagan Motta, Ella Boyd, and Liam Boyd. She was the aunt of many nieces and nephews and sister of the late Walter E. McDevitt, Sr., Thomas F. McDevitt, Sr., Joseph McDevitt, Alice Pryor, Mary McDevitt, Margaret Riley, and Catherine Carroll.
Her funeral will be held Monday, February 4, 2013 at 8:30 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mark Church, Garden City, Cranston. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
