(01/15/13) Cumberland - Joseph Marcel Rosaire “Ross” Lamontagne, 79, died on December 25, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband for 61 years of Margaret Madeline (Bouchard) Lamontagne who has been his sweetheart since Junior High School. He was the son of the late John and Angelina (Charbonneau) Lamontagne. At 16 years old, Ross graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy and then joined the Naval Reserves. He provided for his family as a professional salesman until he retired from the McKesson Drug Company in 1995. As a career salesman, he was a member of the “Knights of the Grip,” a professional organization of traveling salesmen. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball for several community leagues including the Club Montcalm (Manville) and Brown and Sharpe. As his family grew, he became a competent carpenter, painter, plumber, landscaper, and was always eager to help anyone in need. After each snowstorm, he could be seen clearing his neighbors’ driveways around his home in Albion of 46 years and later at his home in Cumberland when he moved there in 1996. While living in Albion, he served with his sons on the Albion Fire Department and drove rescue many years. He was a Boy Scout leader, bowled with the Bussing Buddies in the Walnut Hill Senior League, serving as their treasurer and earning the title of top bowler on many occasions. He enjoyed golfing with family and was an avid pitch and cribbage player participating in many leagues in Northern RI including the VFW Post in Slatersville. His true passion in life was his devotion to his wife and family. Ross was a kind and welcoming man with a quiet sense of humor and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Besides his wife, he leaves four children: David and his wife, Paulette, of North Smithfield, Mark and his wife, Diane, of Smithfield, Renee of Exeter, and Michelle Metivier and her husband, Bruce, of Glendale, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Coutu and her husband, Eugene, of Leesburg, GA, three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. His life will be celebrated with a Memorial Mass on Saturday January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904-9826 or the American Cancer Society will be appreciated.
