(01/02/13) Anthony Furtado, 80, of West Warwick passed away Monday at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Yvette R. (Lizotte) Furtado for 56 years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Joseph Furtado Salema and Mary (Sousa)Furtado and step son of the late Constance Salema.
Mr. Furtado was a Senior Cook at the Rhode Island Training School and a Youth Home Life Supervisor at the Ladd School. He served in The United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Christ The King Church in West Warwick, a member of American Legion Post 2 in West Warwick and an avid gardener.
He was the loving father of Olivia Debra Turner and her husband Martin, Michael A. Furtado of West Warwick, David M. Furtado and his wife Bonnie of Coventry, Anthony J. Furtado of West Warwick and Donna M. Furtado of Coventry. Cherished grandfather of nine and great grandfather of four. He was the brother of the late Mary Nadeau, Doris Kiggins and Dennis Salema.
His Funeral will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 9:00 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Christ The King Church, 120 Legris Avenue, West Warwick. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 4-7 pm.
