(12/30/12) Walter R. Johansen, 96, of Warwick, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Brentwood Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Madeline R. (Fagan) Johansen. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dorothea Johansen Swanstrom.
Mr. Johansen was a Sales Representative with the Orthopedic Division of Homedica-Lynch until his retirement in 1988. He was also employed in the Meat Packing Industry for Armour Co. and Swift Co. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the LST 786 in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
He was a Warwick Council Knight of Columbus, Communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, and very proud of the fact that his grandfather was the keeper of the Rose Island Light \"Julius Johansen.\"
He leaves his two devoted daughters: Judith Johansen Alarie and her husband Robert W. of Matunuck, and Barbara E. Johansen and her husband Dr. Thomas E. Purcell of North Kingstown. Cherished grandfather of Erica Johansen Farenholz and her husband Jacob W., Jessica Johansen Micek, and great-grandfather of Jacob Walter and Avonelle Madeline Farenholz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Kindly omit flowers.
