Edith Y (Smith) Dean - Cranston, RI

(11/30/12) Cranston - Edith Yeaw Dean, age 90, of Randall Street died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at home. She was the wife of the late Russell Harry Dean. Born in Cranston, a daughter of the late Andrew M. and Selinda W. (Yeaw) Smith, she was a lifelong resident of Cranston where she was born, raised, lived and died all in the same home. She worked for twelve years as a food service worker employed by the City of Cranston School Lunch Program. A deeply faithful woman she was for seventy-five years a very active member of the Knightsville-Franklin Congregational Church in Cranston. Edith loved to crochet especially the roses she was always handcrafting. Edith was a direct descendant of Civil War veteran Quartermaster Sargent Amos M.C. Olney who served with the Rhode Island Light Artillery Battery A and Battery B. She is survived by her son Russell A. Dean and his wife Marilyn (Miller) of Bristol; her seven grandchildren: Russell and William Dean, Aliceann and Michael Servant, Kyle and Daryl Wilbur and Shanna Zannini and her twelve great grandchildren: Russell, Normand, Brianna, Kenzie, Karlisle, Colin, Cameron, Halle, Bayley, Chloe, Sophie and Blaze. She was predeceased by her sister Lucy M. Thurber and her brother Andrew L. Smith. Edith will be remembered as the caregiver of so many of her family and friends; as someone who had a wonderful and infectious personality and as a woman who was everybody’s mother or grandmother who is surely going to be sadly missed by many. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10:00 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick.
