(11/23/12) Kenneth A. Souza, 74, of Cranston, entered into Eternal Life after a long and courageous battle with cancer on November 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was the cherished husband of Elaine (Martin) Souza, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Arthur and Amelia (Bicho) Souza of Providence. A graduate of Hope High School and Bryant University, he was employed by the State of RI at the MHRH, where he worked as an administrator for 40 years before his retirement in 2001. In addition, he maintained a private practice, where he worked as a public accountant for many years.
Throughout his life, Ken gave his time to numerous organizations. He was past Grand Knight of the Fatima Council of the Knights of Columbus in Providence and later served as President of the Columbus Club. He was also a fourth degree member of the Hendricken Council. A member of the New England Soccer Hall of Fame, he served as their Treasurer for many years. Ken was also the President of the R.I. Association of Public Accountants. Ken had a lifelong love for softball and played on many local teams. He managed the Superior Bakery team in the R.I. Senior Softball League, where he led them to numerous statewide championships. He served as both Commissioner and Secretary for several years and continued to follow the game he loved.
In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Donna M. Souza and her husband, Carlos Nogueira, of New York, N.Y.; Jennifer M. Souza of Cranston, R.I.; and Bethany Bonazzoli of Guilford, CT. He was the loving grandfather of Ava and Mason Bonazzoli, whom they affectionately called “Papa.” He is also survived by his devoted brother, David J. Souza and his wife, Victoria, of Cranston.
Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the \"WOODLAWN\" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston from 4-8 pm. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 28th from \"WOODLAWN\" Funeral Home at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church, Poplar Drive, Cranston . Burial will follow in St. Ann\'s Cemetery, Cranston.
