(11/07/12) SALEEBA, SISTER MARY ROMANUS, 96, a Sister of Mercy and an accomplished seamstress and dedicated sacristan, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland.
Born in Littleton, NH, she was the daughter of the late Alban and Mary (Romanus) Saleeba and was baptized Josephine. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1942 and professed her perpetual vows on August 16, 1948.
Sister\'s first ministry was at Mount St. Rita Novitiate where she had the daunting but rewarding task of teaching sewing to the novices. From there she was transferred to St. Aloysius Home in Greenville where she worked with young children from 1956-1968. During this time, she also served as a Group Supervisor. Sister returned to Mount St. Rita Convent as sacristan. In this work, she also devoted much time to overseeing and beautifying the Shrine that is part of the Sisters of Mercy property in Cumberland. At the same time, she managed the Gift Shop at the Health Centre. Sales of her considerable craft and art work at the Gift Shop benefited the care of the elderly sisters. She continued this ministry until her retirement in 2006.
