Leo J Raymond, Sr. - Lincoln, RI

(11/06/12) LINCOLN - Leo J. Raymond, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Narragansett after a long illness surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Nov. 4. He was the beloved husband of the late Jennie A. (Paquette) Raymond. They had been married for 65 years. Born in Lincoln, a son of the late Leo J. and Aurore (Bazinet) Raymond, he had been a lifelong resident of Lincoln and summered for many years at Great Island, Narragansett. He was father of Leo (Lee) Raymond of Warwick, Richard Raymond of Santee, S. Carolina, Linda Leary of Smithfield and Diane Myers of Cumberland; one sister, Alice Raymond of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Steven, Jennifer, Lee Michael, Thomas, Samantha, Kara and Brittany; and three great grandchildren, Logan, Levi and Ava Nancy. He was the brother of the late George, Norman and Maurice Raymond. Leo was a special person in many ways. He loved spending time at his home in Great Island, overlooking the water and watching the many beautiful sunsets. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, cooking and entertaining family and friends. He was a loving husband, a caring dad, a great listener but most of all a wonderful role model. Family always came first. With his sister and three brothers, he operated Maplehurst Farm (Raymond Bros.) Dairy of Lincoln, for some 40 years. He was a past President of the R.I. Milk Dealers Association and was for a time, Secretary of the New England Dairy & Food Council. For 32 years, he served as a director of the Credit Union Central Falls. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lincoln Council. For several years, he was active in the Lincoln Little League and Babe Ruth league. He also managed another family enterprise, The Sir Charles Card & Gift Shops. He was a member of the former Lincoln Kiwanis Club. He was a WWII veteran having served 3 years in the U. S. Navy aboard a Navy refueling ship operation in the North Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Pacific theaters. His funeral will be held Friday, November 9, at 9:00 a.m. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
