Maureen M (Walton) Martin - Narragansett, RI

(09/05/15) Martin, Maureen M. (Walton), 79, while surrounded by her family and in the peace of her home passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015. For 57 wonderful years, she was married to Robert E. Martin of Narragansett. Born in Providence, RI; she was the daughter of the late Lewis H. and Catherine M. (Isaacson) Walton. Maureen was a strong willed person and certainly the matriarch of her family. Her maternal instincts and welcoming personality made any house guest feel a part of her family. Her determination and patriotism, allowed her to work shoulder to shoulder with military veteran (P.O.W. and M.I.A.) groups. With this determination she was able to bring her brother home after 36 years from being declared \"missing in action\" from the Vietnam War. She never gave up on anyone or anything. She was also very active with The Prout School and Monsignor Matthew F. Clark School in Wakefield, RI. Among other places of occupation, she favored her time working as the secretary for the Police Chief in the town of Narragansett. In her downtime she enjoyed gardening and crafts, but most of all being a mother. Besides her husband Robert, she is survived by four children: Linda Martin, Lauren Gardiner, Cathy Morrow and Robert Martin and his wife Lori; three grandchildren: Marissa Martin, Justin Morrow, Erin Morrow and step granddaughter Brittany Chaves, a niece and nephew and many other family and friends. She is predeceased by her brother Sgt. First Class Lewis Walton (K.I.A.) and two son-in-laws: Phil Gardiner and Bob Morrow. Her calling hours will be held at Carpenter- Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Thursday, September 10 from 4 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Thomas More Parish, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett, RI on Friday at 10 AM followed with interment in St. Ann\'s Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
