(08/06/15) Joseph A. Pescatello Sr., 92, formerly of Oak Street, Westerly, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2015 at the Clipper Home/Apple Rehab of Westerly. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Marion L. (Cillino) Pescatello in 1987 and his second wife, Lena E. (Urso) Gervasini in 2014. He is survived by his son, Father Joseph A. Pescatello Jr. of North Providence, his daughter, Rosemary P. Ellefsen, wife of Bruce C. of Berlin, CT, two grandchildren, Lauren Ellefsen and Steven Ellefsen, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was also pre-deceased by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Pescatello was born in Westerly on September 22, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Abundanza (Lombardo) Pescatello. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II. For many years, Mr. Pescatello was the dairy department manager for A & P Supermarkets. Joseph was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church of Westerly and was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Calling hours will take place at Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly on Sunday, August 9, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly, RI 02891.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Apple Rehab/Clipper Home for the kindness, compassion and care shown to their loved one during the past three years. They would also like to thank Dr. Crisafi, Dr. West and his staff, the Wound Care Clinic at the Westerly Hospital and Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island for the wonderful care given to their father and grandfather.
