(04/08/15) North Smithfield – William R. “Wild Bill” Lennox, of North Smithfield, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of Frances (Burns) Lennox.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late George W. and Robella (Dumaine) Lennox, he had lived in North Smithfield for many years.
Mr. Lennox worked as a general foreman for Hasbro retiring in 1979. Prior to that he had worked as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney in their aeronautics division in Hackensack, N.J., and was the owner of the former Texaco gas station at Park Square, Woonsocket.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in both the European and Pacific theatres, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was an avid fan of music, particularly big band music, and loved working on cars.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Traficante of North Smithfield, Christine MacNeil, and her husband Michael, of Millville, Massachusetts, and Maureen Sheehan of Woodstock, Connecticut; three sons, Thomas W. Lennox, and his wife Nancy, of Avon Park, Florida, Michael J. Lennox of North Smithfield, and Daniel R. Lennox of Woonsocket; one sister, Lucille Sene of Port St. Lucie, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Michael Lennox, Jr., Keith Lennox, Amy Lennox, Jason Lennox, Alissa Lennox, Rhonda Brillon, Matthew Traficante, Nicholas Traficante, Kelly Guglietti, Shannon Dean, Joshua MacNeil, Jonathan Sheehan, and Erin Hogue; three step-grandchildren, Jeff Delannoy, Stacy Vitiello, and Cindy Vitiello; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Patrick Dean, the step-grandfather of the late Patricia Hopkins, and the brother of the late George Lennox, Thomas Lennox, Robert Lennox, Sister Helen Lennox, Eileen Bessette and Claire Lennox.
His funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. His burial, with military honors, will be private.
