(02/28/15) North Smithfield – Ernest J. “Joe” Riquier, 93, of North Smithfield died Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Anita T. (Paquin) Riquier. Mr. and Mrs. Riquier were married 67 years this past September 6.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Joseph and Marie Louise (Hogue) Riquier, he had lived in Woonsocket for most of his life before moving to North Smithfield 13 years ago.
Mr. Riquier was a foreman in the Water Department for the City of Woonsocket for 10 years before retiring in 1984.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Woonsocket.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of St. Joseph’s Veterans Association, Woonsocket.
Mr. Riquier was a member of the Rev. William J. Frehill Council #5702, Knights of Columbus, North Smithfield and a member of the General Stephen J. Moylan Assembly #1057, 4th Degree, Woonsocket.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Cecile L. Lacey and Jeanne A. Anderson, both of Cumberland; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rosalba LaPlante, Lillian Bourget and Cecile Beaufort.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 4 at 9 A.M. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph’s Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial, with military honors, will be in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket.
