(01/10/15) Pawtucket – Leo R. Laliberte, 85, of Oriole Avenue, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend to many, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after a brief hospitalization surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Arlene F. (Gately) Laliberte for 54 years. Born on July 31, 1929, a son of the late Armand and Ernestine (Carrier) Laliberte, he has been a life-long resident of Pawtucket.
A 1946 graduate of Saint Raphael Academy, he attended Bryant University and served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Iceland. He owned Sullivan’s News, a distributorship for the Providence Journal in Cumberland and Lincoln for over 20 years and was a business proprietor venturing into numerous enterprises throughout his lifetime, retiring at the age of 84.
He was a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Church, Pawtucket for 52 years, belonged to the Bouffard Council of the Knights of Columbus, served on the Board of Directors of Woodlawn Catholic Regional School, and recently joined the Council of the Leon Mathieu Senior Center in Pawtucket.
He is survived by his loving children, Paula J. Beaulieu and her husband, Albert of Bristol, Beth Ann Collins and her husband, Watson of West Hartford, CT, and David Laliberte and his wife, Elizabeth of Rumford. He was the devoted grandfather of Lauren and Kristen Beaulieu, Reid Collins, and Morgan, Madeline, David and Patricia Laliberte. He is also survived by his two sisters, Louise Murdock of North Providence and Lucille Matteo and her husband, Peter of Greenville; his niece, Jennifer Lobello and her family; his brother-in-law, Arthur T. Gately and his wife, Helen of Providence; and two nephews, Arthur and Edward Gately.
The Laliberte Family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Leo’s extended family, especially Mark O’Neill and Leo’s “Lifesavers”, at the RI Home and Hospice Bereavement Support Group where he has been an active participant for the past five years. His spirit and zest for life will be missed.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 14 at 8:45 A.M. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Maria Goretti Church, 155 Power Road, Pawtucket. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.
