(01/09/15) Cumberland – James F. “Jim” Baron, 57, of Bear Hill Road, died Monday, January 5th, at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of seventeen years of Denise Perreault.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of Mary M. (Wilkie) Baron of Lincoln, and the late Robert Baron, he grew up in Lincoln and had lived in Cumberland for the past twenty years.
Mr. Baron was a longtime political columnist and staff writer, covering R.I. politics and the State House for the Pawtucket Times for many years. He was a member and Past President of the Pawtucket Newspaper Guild. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, and earned a Bachelor’s of Journalism from Syracuse University.
He had received numerous awards and accolades for his journalism work over the years. He had a passion for politics at all levels, local, state and national, and local readers of The Times and The Call in Woonsocket eagerly awaited his column \"Politics As Usual\" every week to get the inside scoop on the state\'s political happenings.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by several cousins, including Jean Hudson of Smithfield.
A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited. His burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
