(12/27/14) Eldo (Al) S. Iarussi, 90, of Cranston, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. He was the husband of Mary (Rainone) Iarussi. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Ida (Minadeo) Iarussi.
Eldo was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and studied jewelry design at Rhode Island School of Design. He was a jewelry designer and craftsman, taking his creative designs from the drawing board to the finished products. He worked for Ideal Jewelry and Sage Manufacturing as a hub and die cutter. He also was co-founder and owner of Jopal Jewelry.
Eldo was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving three years of duty in the South Pacific, and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Men’s Guild. Wife his wife Mary, the love of his life, they traveled the world. He had a love for trivia and was a man of humor, famous for his puns and “Eldo jokes.” He shared with his children his love for books, art and music.
Eldo was the brother of the late Ophelia, Viola, Matilda, and Edmond Iarussi. He leaves a daughter, Gail R. and her spouse Carl Romanovich of Seekonk, and a son, John R. Iarussi and his spouse Jonathan L. Wheeler of Boston. Also surviving him are two grandchildren, Robin A. and Eric A. Romanovich, and their respective spouses, Amanda K. Silver and Nupuri Romanovich. He was the proud great-grandfather of Isidor Aleksandr Romanovich. Eldo left behind an inexhaustible supply of happy memories and funny stories for his family to hold dearly in their hearts.
His Funeral will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave. Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in The Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills Dr. at Oaklawn Ave, Cranston. Entombment will follow in Swan Point Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
