(12/09/14) Nelson M. Lopes, Sr., 84, of Draper Avenue, Warwick, RI, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Home and Hospice Care of RI in Providence, RI. Born in Warwick, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Mary (Furtado) Lopes.
Nelson worked in maintenance for the Blaker Brothers in Providence for 30 years until his retirement. He was also a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by five sons: Timothy, Mark, Frederick, Frank and Ken Lopes, one daughter: Lynne Solomon, a sister: Beatrice Grych, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son: David Lopes, two brothers: Gilbert and David Lopes and three sisters: Constance Cruz, Mary Gutierres and Otilla Lisi.
Calling hours will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private.
