(12/01/14) Robert Ellsworth Hoffman, 91 of West Greenwich, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice in Providence.
He was the husband of Mildred “Millie” (Moore) Tanner-Hoffman, and the late Dorothy M. (Ogley) Hoffman.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Orin C. and Priscilla C. (Farmer) Hoffman.
Bob was a Cartographer for the U.S. Government Defense Mapping Agency, before retiring. He was a graduate of Aldrich High School Class of 1942, and a graduate of Vesper George School of Art Class of 1952.
Mr. Hoffman was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army 101st Airborne Division Company G, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
He served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns; landing behind enemy lines on D-Day. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge.
He was a member of the Warwick Central Baptist Church for over 60 years, serving as the church’s President, and as a member of Board of Deacons.
He was a long time member of the Kentish Guards.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Timothy D. Hoffman and his wife Maria, of Orange City Florida, his stepchildren Clifford E. Tanner of Ohio, Carol J. Tanner of East Greenwich, David F. Tanner of West Greenwich, Steven C. Tanner of East Greenwich.
He was the grandfather of Melina Hoffman R.N., Stefano Hoffman, and Alexander Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was the brother of the late June Bouillier, and grandfather of the late Robert Hoffman.
His funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00am in the Warwick Central Baptist Church, 3270 Post Road, Warwick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday in the URQUHART – MURPHY Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave. Warwick from 5-8pm.
