Richard E Sheehan - Lincoln, RI

(10/26/14) LINCOLN - Richard E. Sheehan, 88, of Curtis Lane, died Saturday, October 25, at the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret \"Peg\" A. (Sullivan) Sheehan. Born in Jamestown, a son of the late Thomas and Katherine (O\'Toole) Sheehan, he had lived in Lincoln since 1967. Mr. Sheehan served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Town of Lincoln for many years. Prior to that, he had served as a teacher in the Jamestown School District, and as Principal of the Garden Hills Elementary School. He retired after serving as Guidance Counselor at the Our Lady of Providence Regional School. He was a graduate, with a B.S., from Franklin & Marshall College; a graduate, with a M.Ed. from Boston University, and graduate, with an A.G.S., from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Sheehan was very active in the community. He was a member of the Jamestown Lions Club, where he was a Charter King Lion. He served on the Parks & Recreation Committee for the Town of Lincoln, and was honored to have the Town Olympics named after him. The Town of Lincoln Richard E. Sheehan Olympics celebrated 40 years this year. He was active with the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as with the American Legion Post 14, where he also served as manager of their baseball team. He had also served on the Board of Directors at the Boys & Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln. A U.S. Navy veteran, he had served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Jude Church. He is survived by one daughter, Ann Kashmanian, and her husband John, of North Providence; three sons, R. Kevin Sheehan, and his wife Angela of Westerly, John J. Sheehan, and his wife Monica, of Oak Park, Ill., and David M. Sheehan of Smithfield; eight grandchildren, Lauren and John Kashmanian, Colin, Kerri, Pierce, Maeve, Emily and Ryan Sheehan; one great-granddaughter, Margaret Kashmanian; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas Sheehan and John Sheehan. His funeral will be held Wednesday, October 29 at 8:45 a.m. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be private.
