(10/18/14) Assunta \"Susan\" (Mascaro) Scungio, 87, of Everbloom Drive, Cranston, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Albert F. Scungio, who adored her. She was the daughter of the late Angelo and Angelina (Militerno) Rachiele.
She worked in the jewelry industry for Foremost Rubber Co. for 25 years until opening her own business, Alcan Jewelry Supply Corp in 1979 which she was president of until her passing. Susan taught CCD classes and served as chairwoman on the Providence School Committee. Susan was a member of The Providence Jewelers Club and JSA. She loved to cook, drink Bacardi and Coke, listen to Frank Sinatra and most of all spend time with her family.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Shirley Kirkland and her companion David Mulcahey of Cranston and Jayne O’Brien and her husband Paul of Cranston. Her dearly beloved grandchildren Gina Fossa and her husband Kevin, Michael P. O’Brien and his wife Meaghan, and Jessica Messier and her husband Kyle. She was the great grandmother of Taylor and Paige Fossa and Luke and Madeline O’Brien whom she adored. Nana “Nannone” gave us grace, courage, and most of all love.
She was the sister of Marie Salvati, Catherine Antonetti, Elena Mancini, and Lucy Swinson. She was predeceased by her brothers Vincent and Joseph Mascaro, Joseph, Ralph, Samuel and Salvatore Rachiele and her sisters Theresa Pallotta, Rose Costantino, and Concetta Procaccini.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Calling hours respectfully omitted.
