(10/12/14) Cumberland – Joseph D. Carbon, 86, of Evergreen Street died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Mount St. Rita’s Health Centre, Cumberland. He was the beloved husband of Rita E. (Merritt) Carbon. Mr. and Mrs. Carbon were married for 62 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Michael J. and Loretta (Darby) Carbon, he had lived in Cumberland for the past 59 years.
Mr. Carbon was the office manager for the Fanning & Doorley Construction Company, Forte Bros. Construction Company and Universal Construction before retiring in 2003. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s Grammar School and LaSalle Academy, and was a 1951 graduate of Providence College.
He was a Fire Warden of the Cumberland Hill Fire District and the Cumberland Democratic Party Committee. He was an avid New England Patriots fan.
Mr. Carbon was a communicant of Historic St. Joseph’s Church, Ashton.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kathleen M. Keaney of Norton, MA; one son, Joseph M. Carbon of Charlestown; two grandsons, Brian C. Keaney (Allison) of Norton, MA and Kevin J. Keaney of Somerville, MA; two great granddaughters, Corinne and Aislinn Keaney of Norton, MA; and one sister-in-law, Sr. Madeleine Merritt, IHM of Scranton, PA.
His funeral will be held WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 at 8:30 A.M. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Historic St. Joseph’s Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
