(10/03/14) Coventry - Claude D. “Skip” Pendegraph, 69, of Waterman Hill Road, Greene, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished husband of Carolyn L. (Meek) Pendegraph. Born in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late Sam D. and Shirlie V. (Smith) Pendegraph, he lived in Coventry for the past 27 years. Skip served in the United States Coast Guard for 22 years retiring in 1987 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Power Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston in 1983 while serving in the Coast Guard. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Greene Public Library Association and the Western Coventry Fire District and former President of the Moosup Valley Fire Station. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Y2K League at Foster Country Club. Skip’s family remembers him as a kind, helpful and outgoing man. They will never forget all of his wonderful \"big bear\" hugs, his blueberry pancakes, and the fact that, “If you needed to know what to do, call Skip”. In addition to his wife he is survived by two step-children: David Brady & his wife Nina Mushell of Santa Clara, CA and Valerie L. Lowder & her husband James of Warwick; one sister: Frances McConkey & her husband Edward of Madisonville, TN and he was a loving “Gramps” to Katharine & Cameron Lowder. He was the beloved brother-in-law of Marsha Warren & her husband Wayne of Charlestown, David Meek of Warren, Jean Robbins of East Providence and Janice Griffin & her husband James of Little Compton. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 3 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Interment with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter on Saturday will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 am at Moosup Valley Congregational Christian Church, 81 Moosup Valley Road, Foster. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907 (www.rifoodbank.org).
