(09/05/14) EVERETT, Dorothy L. “Dottie” (LaRue), 92, formerly of Smithfield joined her family on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014.
She was the wife of the late Edward E. Everett. Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Bertha (Hindersinn) LaRue. She was a resident of Smithfield for over 60 years.
She leaves a niece, Pamela D. Murphy and her husband Robert of Warwick and was the sister of the late Gertrude L. Vose, Alice A. DeSaint and Thomas LaRue.
For many years she was the manager of Edward R. Woolley Company of East Providence and office manager for Tondre Supply Company of Smithfield.
Dorothy was a Red Cross Motor Service Driver during WWII, a life member of the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association, member of the Smith-Appleby Historical Association, former secretary of Smithfield AARP, a volunteer of the Smithfield Clean Water Association and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. For many years she was a member of the Pawtucket Chapter, National Secretaries Association, serving as president and being chosen “Woman of the Year”.
Dottie was an avid animal lover. She would say, “I have never met and animal I didn’t like.” She would not leave the house until she had one pocket filled with dog biscuits for any four-legged friend she met and another pocketful of wrapped hard candies to pass out to strangers to make them smile by telling them it was “to keep them as sweet as they are”.
She would fill her car with soda and cookies and deliver them to each fire station and the police department in Smithfield to let them know she appreciated their work.
A private service and interment will take place at Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
