(08/22/14) Doris Alma (Proulx) Read, “Nana”, 96, passed away on Wednesday, August 20th. She was the wife of the late Earl A. Read, Sr. Born in New Bedford MA, on April 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Alma Champagne Proulx and the late Arthur J. Proulx.
She was the mother of the late Earl A. Read Jr, and his late wife Jacqueline T. Maynard Read, Elizabeth Farnham and her late husband Joseph, and Loretta and George Low. Sister of Louis, Raymond, Richard, William and the late Peter and Donald Proulx. Grandmother of George Low and his fiancé Heather Hynes, Tim Low and his longtime friend Janine Jackson, Nancy Read Pirnie and her husband Thomas, Lynn Read Beck and her husband Christopher, Earl A. Read, III and his wife Amy. Great Grandmother of 9, Great Great Grandmother of 5, soon to be 6! Proud lover of 4 beloved dachshunds.
Mrs. Read volunteered for the Cranston and Warwick Senior Centers, Cedar Crest Nursing Home, Ronald McDonald House and Steere House Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the recipient of the Cranston Outstanding Senior Award and Warwick Outstanding Senior Award.
Nana lived her life for her family and was a thoughtful giving and caring person to all. Her strength and wisdom will last forever in all of us.
Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 9:00-10:00 am followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Ronald McDonald House or Steere House Nursing and Rehab Center would be appreciated.
