(08/02/14) Coventry – Irene (Severino) Correia, 94, died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Alvaro Correia; mother of the late Dawn Correia and grandmother of the late Christopher Corsano. Irene is survived by two daughters: Januaria Corsano (and her husband Chris, NYPD Ret.) of South Hampton, NY and Robin M. Winslow ( Lt., Coventry PD Ret. and her husband Doug Coventry PD Ret.) of Riverside, RI; two sons: Alvaro G. Correia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Daniel L. Correia (New Rochelle, NY PD Ret. and his wife Kelly) of Sandown, NH; five grandchildren: Lori, Christine(DeDe), Tracy, Gregory & Rebecca; four great grandchildren: Jason, Christian, Julian & Isabella and two great-great grandchildren: Christopher & Lola. Born in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of the late Mary C. (Costa) Severino, she lived in Bristol for 27 yrs before moving to Coventry in 2000. She loved animals, especially cats and was known to take in a stray or two over the years. She so enjoyed cooking for her family and her rice pudding was a specialty. While living in NY for many years she learned to cook “Italian” and her “gravy” was always a treat. She also enjoyed sewing and had worked as a seamstress at the Paper Shoppe in Barrington RI, owned by her son Al and his partner Marc. She was truly a perfectionist when it came to her crafts and was known to start all over again if she were to find a mistake, no matter how near to finishing she was. She will be remembered as a woman who was proud of her family and fearless when it came to protecting/defending them. She spoke her mind and her wit was so much a part of her personality that she held on to it for as long as her mind would allow. She enjoyed time spent at the Coventry Senior Center and never missed an opportunity to brag about her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren inclusive of cats and dogs especially Hawk and Sooner. Her family will privately attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Mary\'s Church, Wood Street, Bristol. Her burial will follow in the Parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915. Remembrances may be offered online at carpenterjenks.com.
