(07/25/14) Lois M. (Sherman) Barton, 85, of Tuckertown Village, Wakefield, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at South County Hospital.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Helen H. (Knowlton) Sherman, Jr.; mother of Susan E. Fisher & her husband Robert of Cranston, William R. Barton and his wife Linda of Eaton, NH and the late Stephen G. Barton; Nana to her three grandchildren: Heather Lussier & her husband Christopher of Cranston, Lauren Fisher of Cranston, and Marc Deitch & his wife Alison of Warwick, RI and Nana to her four great grandchildren: Mason, Aaron, Camden & Peyton.
Lois worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for her sons, Steve & Bill, at their retail florist business, The Flower Shed in Cranston. She previously worked as the secretary at People’s Baptist Church. For many years she was a member of People’s Baptist Church in Cranston.
Her family remembers her as the glue that held the family together. She loved the RI coast, lighthouses, camping and family gatherings. She summered with her family at Long Cove campground for numerous years.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
