(07/08/14) West Warwick - Jean L. Herman, 78, of Whisper Court, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. She was the beloved wife of Donald C. Herman with whom she celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2014.
Born in Waterford, CT, the daughter of the late Francis and Helen (Eccleston) Leiper, she had lived in Coventry since 1977 before moving to West Warwick one year ago. She worked as a corsetiere and garment fitter at Ruth’s Lingerie in Cranston.
Her family remembers her as a woman who was very loving and attentive to the needs of her family. She was thoughtful, never impulsive and she never changed her mind. Jean loved children and for many years was a volunteer at the Coventry Public Library’s Story Time.
In addition to her husband she is survived by five children: Michael C. Herman & his wife Celia of Monroe, NY, Annie-Laurie Hunter of Syracuse, NY, Donna L. Corrigan of West Warwick, Linda J. Savage & her husband James of Joaquin, TX and Sandra R. Lewis of Fort Collins, CO; two sisters: Elizabeth McCarty of Linthicum, MD and Harriet Dowers of Tucson, AZ; one brother: Kenneth Leiper of Old Lyme, CT; eight grandchildren: Russell, Joseph & Clarissa Herman, Jasmine Robley, Zane Lewis, Samuel, Greggory & Joshua Savage and two great grandchildren: Lilly Rose Savage & Murdoch Robley. She was the mother of the late Douglas S. Herman and sister of the late Francis Leiper.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday, prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
